Does Oily Skin Really Need a Night Cream?

Oily skin can still benefit from moisturising at night. Surface shine does not mean that every part of your routine is providing the moisture and comfort your skin needs.

However, you do not necessarily need a separate product labelled “night cream.” What matters is choosing a moisturiser that suits your skin, feels comfortable, and works with any other products you use.

Look at how your skin feels after cleansing

If your face feels tight after washing but becomes shiny later, skipping moisturiser may not solve the discomfort. Review the cleanser and the moisturising step together.

A useful evening routine should not leave you choosing between an uncomfortable bare face and layers that feel too heavy.

Texture is personal. Some people prefer a light lotion; others enjoy a cream. Neither the richest texture nor the greatest number of layers is automatically the right choice.

Lightweight does not tell you everything

Read the ingredient list as well as the texture description. An active night cream containing salicylic acid has a different role from a plain moisturiser.

That difference matters if you already use an exfoliating serum, an acne treatment, or a cleanser with active ingredients. Your products should make sense together.

Heaviness and breakouts are also different issues. A product can feel rich without causing spots, while a light texture alone cannot guarantee that it will suit everyone.

Keep the evening routine manageable

Cleanse, use any treatment according to its directions, and moisturise. Introduce new products individually.

If your skin is currently peeling, stinging, or inflamed, avoid treating an active night cream as a recovery moisturiser. Keep to tolerated basics and seek advice when irritation persists.

A Melissa option for oily skin

Our Juniper Night Cream is designed for oily and acne-prone routines. It combines juniper fruit extract with moisturising ingredients and salicylic acid.

Choose it when that active formula fits your needs. If you already use Willow Bark Serum, check the overlap: both contain salicylic acid, so they should not be introduced together as two new exfoliating steps.
