Kashmir’s Graceful Healer
Known locally as ‘Vir’ in Kashmiri, willow is deeply woven into Kashmir’s landscape, flourishing in the cool, moist conditions of the valley. Different willow species grow around riverbanks, wetlands and cultivated areas across Kashmir. Traditionally, willow leaves and bark have been used in local remedies, including preparations for fever and digestive discomfort, while its branches and wood became part of everyday life.
